Then I had an allergic reaction to the plaquenil - a rash all over my body, neck, arms and legs. I stopped taking it 1 week ago. May 28, 2009 Plaquenil has been the only drug besides prednisone, but the doctors tell me I can't live on predisone forever that has helped the sclerosis in my stomach which has caused severe gastroparesis caused by the systemic sclerosis. But this itching is getting me to the point where I'm thinking about stopping the medication! Please help if you can. However for the past two weeks,I have had very uncomfortable itchy skin that radiates to different parts of my body. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. I have had to stop my plaquenil and aside from the fatigue and joint pain that I knew I would have, I also now have a sunburned look on my face when I go out in the sun and itching skin, almost like a hive type rash on my back.

What can Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil do to my eyes? The actual incidence of retinal toxicity from hydroxychloroquine is difficult to pin down because there is usually a long time between being started on the drug and the start of any identifiable retinal toxicity. The overall rate of probable retinal toxicity is in the range of 1 of every 200 people treated.
