  1. Hydroxychloroquine causing rash where

I saw a GP about it (not my usual one) and they strongly suspect it is being caused by MTX but I have just spoken to the Rheumy nurse who thinks Hydroxy is the more likely suspect or it may be an autoimmune response so now I have to withhold all rheumy meds. It seems to improve when I am on steroids but only at higher doses. Thanks, Tamara I am on all sorts of meds including MTX and Hydroxy.

May 23, 2016 A more severe rash affecting larger areas of the body may occur but is not common. If this type of rash occurs, other medications such as anti-histamines and steroids may be required to help with symptoms. Over time, hydroxychloroquine may uncommonly have an adverse effect on the retina that can lead to permanent visual damage if not picked up. Aug 26, 2013 Can plaquenil hydroxychloroquine cause a blistering rash on palms of hands. Is that a common side affect. I am also vomiting everyday. How long does it take for plaquenil hydroxychloroquine to work with rashes? Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine has brought ANA, SED, C-Reactive down. I function-barely. Plaquenil can cause serious side effects when used in high doses for chronic diseases such as RA over the long term. The New Zealand Dermatological Society recommends that to decrease the risk of retina damage, no more than 200mg of Plaquenil should be taken a day, and a dose of 400mg per day should be taken no longer than a few weeks.

I can't face the GP again, as I am sure I am one of the "heart-sink" patients! I have recently developed an itchy rash which only affects my cheeks and eyebrows and haven't a clue what's causing it, so I hope you get some helpful replies that might help me too!

  5. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. Today, it is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, some symptoms of lupus, childhood arthritis or juvenile idiopathic arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. It is not clear why hydroxychloroquine is effective at treating autoimmune diseases.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is a drug that is classified as an anti-malarial drug. Plaquenil is prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. It is also prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and the side effects of lupus such as hair loss, joint pain, and more. I had an itchy rash due to methotrexate. They thought it was most likely to be caused by Cimzia, so stopped both drugs, restarted MTX and the rash came back. So I had to stop that and started on new medication after the rash had subsided. The doctor hasn't seen that before, so it's not always the cause. Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine. It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as.
